The Utilities & Test Stands Section at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a "Mechanical Technician for Water Cooling Systems" positions.

Description of section
The Utilities & Test Stands Section within the Specialized Technical Services Group works alongside other groups in the Accelerator Division to define, design, install, commission and finally operate and maintain the accelerator cooling water systems, accelerator conventional electrical systems, and test stands at ESS. The group is also responsible for design of water-cooling systems for the Neutron Instruments Division.

Main responsibilities

• Assist and supervise installation activities of the accelerator and neutron instruments water-cooling systems
• Assist in procurement of tools and auxiliary equipment required for maintenance and operation
• Prepare cooling system for operation, filling and flushing, with a high demand on water quality
• Participate in test preparation, commissioning and maintenance of cooling systems, including support of pressure tests
• Propose and Perform minor changes and modifications of cooling systems in order to improve system functionality
• Assist in writing and improving guidelines and procedures for operations
• Perform delimitations and tag outs

You will support the cooling system engineers and design engineers, communicate with colleagues, consultants, and suppliers to ensure safe and timely commissioning and stable operation of the relevant equipment and processes of the ESS machine.

Formal education from operation or maintenance programs on college level with practical experience from either operation or maintenance at industrial process/thermal/nuclear power plants is preferable. A good general understanding of work safety, ability to understand and follow safety rules and regulations. The ability to read - and knowledge of process system documentation such as P&ID and system descriptions, operational procedures etc. As well as understanding of water chemistry, demineralization systems and water quality in general. Experience with system preparations for startup and test and with knowledge of process system maintenance programs
Good oral and written Swedish and English skills are a prerequisite

To be successful and perform well in this position you need to be good at working together with others, have a positive attitude and a problem solving mindset. When planning and organizing your work, you can easily identify what is needed of you and you perform your work in a systematic and methodical way.

It is expected that during commissioning, early operations and later in maintenance periods occasional shift work (including nights and weekends) is required. In the normal operation phase scheduled on-call service but no permanent physical presence at site is foreseen during off-business hours.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
