At Volvo Materials Technology in Gothenburg, we are a team of more than 35 engineers that support the development of Volvo’s products by using our specialist knowledge in materials and mechanical testing. We have a state-of-the-art analysis and testing laboratory that enables us to deliver services to all Volvo Group brands worldwide.
We solve both customer and production issues, work closely with the development organization, and are involved in supplier quality investigations.
This is what you will do
You will be a member of the Mechanical Testing and Screw Joining Technology team where you will act as technical expert within the screw joining area.
At the core of the job is understanding problems, /issues and discuss ways forward with different stakeholders. You will manage and perform material investigations, investigate assembly issues, do failure analyses, and much more. The investigations are normally finalized with a written engineering report not only containing conclusions but also recommendations for decisions and future work.
You will take part in continuous improvements of the laboratory and be responsible for test equipment, maintenance, and method development.
The position is based in Gothenburg. Travel may be needed occasionally.
You and your skills
To be successful in this role you need to have hands on experience from mechanical testing and evaluation. You are service minded, enjoy interacting with colleagues, external stakeholders and have a positive mind-set with a can-do attitude. Analytical thinking combined with good verbal and written communication skills will be necessary to identify problems, perform relevant testing and communicate results. You have a proven work history of taking personal initiative, with attention to detail. As the lab is a global support function, you have experience in working with several stakeholders and can make priorities when needed.
Other qualifications are:
M.Sc. or similar in Materials Science or Solid Mechanics
At least 5 years of experience within the area of mechanical testing.
Proficient in the use of relevant laboratory equipment and knowledge in development of methods for examination and applied mechanical testing.
Knowledge in mechanical failure mechanisms, failure modes and deformation behaviour.
Knowledge within materials and coating selections, calculation parameters, component design and standards of bolted joint assemblies is a strong advantage.
English proficiency, both written and spoken. Swedish is a merit, as well as French and German
